The woman won the maximum possible prize on a $5 “Winter Winnings” ticket, the Michigan Lottery announced in a news release Monday, Feb. 10. She bought the ticket at West Side Party Shoppe, located at 119 N. Hamilton St., in Old Town Saginaw.
The woman has decided to remain anonymous, according to the news release. She recently visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing to claim the prize, which those who score more than $50,000 must do to claim their winnings, according to the lottery’s website.
What will she do with all that cash? The woman told the lottery she planned to buy her brother a new car and save the rest.
Residents have won more than $8 million from Winter Winnings tickets since the game launched in December, and more than $8 million in prize money still remains, according to the release. This includes another $500,000 prize and four $1,000 prizes.
Recent Michigan prizes include a $3.4 million winning Lotto 47 ticket sold in Warren, which was reported Monday morning. A Detroit woman won $1 million playing Powerball last month, and in December a Grand Rapids woman won $5 million from Lotto 47 and a Washtenaw County man won $1 million in an instant game.
